When visiting Weaste Cemetery, Salford, a year or so ago, searching for and finding headstones relating to David’s family of Hartigan and Renshaw, we came across this rather poignant stone commemorating the burial of many, many Salfordians whose families could not afford the luxury of a single plot or even a communal plot that would hold 10 or 12 people. Laid to rest somewhere beneath this rather pretty area of well-tended lawn are the remains of David’s great grandmother, Margaret Joynt (her maiden name).
